My expertise is not networking…………….
Serviced a customers computer in home, and after repairing her pc she asked me if knew how to hook up her Wii to the internet. I said “sure, can take care of that for you” After trying to log into the linksys router, and realizing the default password was changed, meaning her wireless was secured. Asked her she knew the wireless passsword………………. which of course she had no idea.
No problem, I reset her linksys router to clear the security, and after that her connection was lost completely thru the linksys router. Direct modem to computer was good, but thru router nothing. I spent 2 hours trying to get her linksys router back on line.
I left and did a little googling (my best friend!), and came back with some info to give it another try.
Very simple, fixed up in 5 minutes!
Log into linksys router, leave setting to DHCP auto (default),, BUT chabge the local IP in the linksys router to:
192.168.2.1
(was 192.168.1.1,, same as dsl modem)
Once I changed the linksys router ip# to 192.168.2.1, release, renewed IP (power down pc, modem and router) her internet connection was back on line thru thru the linksys router and all.
Sure will remember this the next time I run into a ATT&T modem or dsl connection problem with linksys!
